The Joy Thieves

The Joy Thieves is an ever-expanding industrial/punk/hard rock collective that includes current, former, and touring members of bands such as Ministry, Stabbing Westward, The Rollins Band, Killing Joke, Pigface, Revolting Cocks, David Bowie, Machines of Loving Grace, Marilyn Manson, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM, Naked Raygun, Foetus, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, Blue October, Pegboy, Nitzer Ebb, White Zombie, and many more.

And while it may be hard to imagine the sound of a band with 80+ members who are spread all across the globe, this musical juggernaut has developed their own unique sound that is surprisingly cohesive.

It’s raw, yet precise.
Combative, but refined.
Dark and aggressive, but topped with triumphantly singable choruses.

It’s a sound that can only be described as being created by all of us. And yet, none of us.

Conceived in late 2017, The Joy Thieves spent a year and a half developing their signature sound before signing with London’s legendary alternative/industrial label, Armalyte Industries in early 2019. Since then, the band has put out twelve well-received releases on the Armalyte Industries imprint: This Will Kill That, Cities In Dust, A Blue Girl, Genocide Love Song, American Parasite, Nemesis, 6 To 3, Dissent-ertainment: 6 To 3 Remixed,  The Heart of the Worm, Return To Needle Park, and Spilt Milk, and The Wrong End of Your Rifle.

These are the words I kept hearing from my friends, family, and fellow Joy Thieves as they described how they were feeling in the days following the U.S. Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe vs. Wade earlier this year. And while it can certainly be hard to know what to do with feelings like those, The Joy Thieves did what we ALWAYS do: we created.

And while it felt extremely satisfying to be able to express some of the resentment and anger we are feeling about this tragic injustice….we also quickly realized that recording and releasing a few songs simply wasn’t going to be enough. Not this time.

Now, more than ever, pro-choice organizations need MONEY to keep operating. This is exactly why The Joy Thieves will be donating 100% of the money raised from the sale of the ‘6 To 3’ EP, and its accompanying line of exclusive t-shirts and hoodies to the National Network of Abortion Funds. It is a real-world way that we can offer some assistance.

Friends, it is no coincidence that today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The Joy Thieves chose to release ‘6 To 3’ on this day in particular, because we truly believe that any political attempt to restrict medical care for women IS an act of violence. If you agree that all women should have complete control over their own medical decisions, including the right to determine whether, when, and how to create a family…help us raise some much-needed money for an organization that is built for EXACTLY that purpose.
